Chief Medical Officer of the Quality Measurement and Value-Based Incentives Group in the Center for Clinical Standards and Quality, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services

Reena Duseja, M.D., M.S., is the Chief Medical Officer of the Quality Measurement and Value-Based Incentives Group in the Center for Clinical Standards and Quality at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). In this role, Dr. Duseja oversees the measure development and analyses for a variety of CMS quality reporting and value-based purchasing programs, and alignment efforts in quality measurement across the agency. She also serves as a member of the Quality Innovation Council at Center for Medicare & Medicaid Innovation 

Prior to joining CMS, Dr. Duseja was an Associate Professor at the University of California, San Francisco, in the Department of Emergency Medicine. There, she led quality improvement activities in a large county hospital and was awarded funding by NIH to conduct studies related to improving patient care and value for the health system. She was also a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar at the University of Pennsylvania, where her research focused on quality of care and unintended consequences of measurement.  

Dr. Duseja has more than 15 years of clinical, teaching, and administrative experience. She received her master’s in science in health economics at Wharton, in the Health Care Management and Economics program, at the University of Pennsylvania. She earned her medical degree from George Washington University, in Washington, D.C.
