William B. Borden, MD, MBA, is the Chief Quality and Population Health Officer at the George Washington Medical Faculty Associates and an Associate Professor of Medicine and Health Policy at the George Washington University. Dr. Borden is a practicing cardiologist and leads the Medical Faculty Associates’ quality improvement, patient safety, and population health programs, including their accountable care organization. He previously served as a Senior Advisor to the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation at the US Department of Health and Human Services and as a Medical Officer at the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality.

Dr. Borden has published on topics such as the impact of hospital value-based purchasing on socioeconomically disadvantaged hospitals and the dissemination of patient-centered outcomes research in journals such as JAMA, JAMA Internal Medicine, Circulation, and the Journal of the American College of Cardiology. He serves as the Chair of the American Heart Association’s Quality of Care and Outcomes Research Council, as an Associate Editor of Circulation: Cardiovascular Quality and Outcomes, and on the American College of Cardiology’s Population Heath Management Task Force.

Dr. Borden received his undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania and his medical degree from the Johns Hopkins University. He trained at the University of Chicago, where he also served as chief medical resident for a year and earned an MBA. Dr. Borden is a fellow of both the American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology.
