*Thomas Buckingham (Select Medical, Allevant Solutions) Thomas Buckingham, MBA, currently serves as the Executive Vice President for Select Medical. Select Medical is a healthcare provider with approximately 48,000 employees throughout the United States. Select Medical owns and operates long-term acute care and inpatient rehabilitation hospitals, as well as occupational health and physical therapy clinics.
Mr. Buckingham’s principle responsibilities include all matters regarding current and proposed healthcare regulations, existing and evolving reimbursement models, and the company’s advocacy efforts. In this role, he has been instrumental developing many new proposals and advocating for revisions to existing rules and regulations as well as proposing new governmental policies which have been presented to CMS, MedPAC, and members of Congress and their staff in Washington, D.C.
Mr. Buckingham also serves as President for Allevant Solutions, a 50-50 joint venture between Mayo Clinic and Select Medical. Allevant’s mission is to provide consultative services, clinical education, and training directly to Critical Access Hospitals that desire to provide a higher level of clinical care to medically complex patients in rural communities throughout the United States.
Mr. Buckingham’s advisory roles include participation on the Health Care Payment Learning & Action Network, the naviHealth Scientific Advisory Board, and both the American Hospital Association’s Regional Health Policy Board and the Post-Acute Care Strategy Steering Committee.
Mr. Buckingham earned his bachelor’s degree in nursing and his MBA from Oakland University.
