Dr. Renee McLaughlin is National Medical Director, Value-Based Relationships with Cigna and leads a team focused on the design, implementation, and management of collaborative partnerships with health care providers to improve health outcomes. She has extensive experience in this field and speaks regularly in both regional and national forums on value-based health care delivery. She is a member of the Health Care Payment Learning and Action Guiding Committee for the CMS, chairs the AHIP Value-Based Care work group, and participates in the National Academy of Medicine Value Incentives & Systems Action Collaborative.
Prior to joining Cigna in 2005, Dr. McLaughlin was a practicing general and vascular surgeon in a single-specialty practice. She earned a BS at Adrian College, MS at Wayne State University, and completed her graduate and post-graduate medical and surgical training at the University of Pittsburgh. She served as a Major in the United States Army during the first Gulf war and was awarded the National Defense Medal.
Dr. McLaughlin has a strong interest in LGBT health and workforce issues, and specifically those affecting gender-diverse people. She has served on the leadership team for Cigna’s LGBT Colleague Resource Group and is an internal and external resource on transgender-related issues. On behalf of Cigna, she provides workplace and management training to employers, and has worked with numerous Fortune 500 companies. She has served on the boards for Reaching Out and the Human Rights Campaign, has served on HRC’s Business Advisory Council and the American College of Surgeons Committee on Diversity, is a member of the World Professional Association on Transgender Health (WPATH), and is a founding board member of OUTLOOK, the Chattanooga, TN LGBT chamber of Commerce.
She currently lives in northern Michigan where she spends her free time enjoying the abundant natural beauty.
